![]() ![]() ![]() Anybody have any good recommendations for a biography of Newton? He is a figure I'd be interested to learn more about. But for the final product, the result of twelve years of work, he pared three volumes of material down to a more manageable 500 pages. A genius with few friends, a member of parliament. Coming of Age in the Milky Way ( 1988) Author Info: Timothy Ferris - When Timothy Ferris decided to write a history of Cosmology he very nearly ended up with a book the size of the Cosmos itself. Partook of astronomy, mathematics, theology, alchemy. Save up to 80 versus print by going digital with VitalSource. He seemed to be such an oddball, a very fascinating historical figure. Coming of Age in the Milky Way is written by Timothy Ferris and published by HarperCollins e-books. I was particularly interested in Isaac Newton as a person. Ferris does a good job explaining theory in more lay-terms, evidenced by the feeling that I have a halfway decent (from a non-mathematical perspective) understanding of Einstein's theory of general relativity after reading the chapter on Einstein. It's interesting to see how the study of the universe beyond Earth progressed throughout human history. It gives great background on a lot of the giants of the field Galileo, Newton, Herschel, Hubbel, Einstein to name a few. I'm really fascinated by cosmic stuff, but don't like the math that goes along with actually doing it, and this book is exactly what I would look for in a book about the study of astronomy. Basically a history of astronomy and astrophysics. ![]() It's not necessarily scholarly, but informative and well-researched. Not done with it yet, but this book is really neat. ![]()
